Australia's Cheapest Cars To Own And Operate

You are here

Queensland's most expensive car costs $22,000 a year to run with the cheapest coming in under $6,000.

Owning a car isn't a cheap venture, but choosing a car with a lower running cost could save you thousands.

The Royal Automobile Club of Queensland's (RACQ) 2018 Vehicle Running Costs surveylooked at a record 139 popular vehicles and assessed expenses associated with owning a car. These included costs related to interest, fuels tyres, servicing, insurance, government charges and depreciation.

The Mitsubishi Mirage ES took the crown for the cheapest  car to own and run, costing just under $6000 a year. The survey found the most expensive car was the Toyota Landcruiser V8, which, as the most expensive non-electric vehicle, cost drivers $19,527 a year.
